General summary

Leads the management, security, performance, and reliability of enterprise database systems. Oversees database administration staff, ensures data integrity and high availability, manages database environments and proactive monitoring, and collaborates with technical and business teams to optimize application performance, connectivity, security, integration, and documentation.

Major duties

  • Manages enterprise database and mid-tier platforms, including installation, configuration, tuning, upgrades, and patching, to ensure performance, stability, availability, and compliance with institutional standards. Oversees performance monitoring, capacity planning, and support for Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems, ensuring reliable and secure operations.
  • Leads the strategy, modernization, and optimization of enterprise data platforms, including cloud and hybrid technologies, to enhance scalability, security, performance, and alignment with organizational technology initiatives.
  • Supervises and leads the database administration team, assigning and prioritizing work, monitoring performance, and ensuring timely and effective support of enterprise systems and projects.
  • Manages enterprise database, mid-tier, platform implementations and upgrades, overseeing resource allocation, prioritization, and delivery to ensure successful outcomes. Communicates project status, risks, and results to leadership and stakeholders, and leads initiatives involving system modernization, cloud integration, monitoring, disaster recovery, enterprise tools, upgrades, integrations, and patch management.
  • Develops, implements and oversees database backup, recovery, disaster recovery, and security strategies to ensure data integrity, business continuity, compliance, and protection of enterprise data. Manages access controls, encryption, auditing, and support for data governance initiatives.
  • Provides consulting, troubleshooting, and production support for enterprise database and mid-tier services, ensuring reliable operations and timely issue resolution. Oversees a multilayered monitoring strategy that includes enterprise monitoring tools, automated scripting, log analysis, and end-to-end application monitoring with automated system status communications to stakeholders.
  • Establishes and maintains database standards, procedures, and documentation, ensuring consistency and adherence to best practices across environments; ensures integrity across development, test, and production systems, supporting release management and change control processes.

Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.

Required education

  • Bachelor's degree in related field from an accredited institution.

Required experience

  • Three years' relevant experience.
  • Supervisor or lead experience.
  • Vendor management experience.
  • Extensive practical experience with database software, cloud computing services, and enterprise business applications in an enterprise environment.
  • Demonstrated experience designing, administering, transitioning, and supporting Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and mid-tier systems for a large, complex organization.
  • Project management experience leading projects from planning through implementation.
  • Experience developing or enforcing programming or database standards.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.

Physical requirements

Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.

Working conditions

Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
