Job description
General summary
Ensures flight instruction complies with Federal Aviation Administration requirements and meets University standards. Manages the safety management system and reporting tracker for the College.
Major duties
- Directs and develops standardization and new-hire indoctrination training of all flight instructors. Provides flight instruction and conducts in-flight progress evaluations. Documents evaluations, and certifies their qualifications to provide flight instruction.
- Hires, trains, evaluates, and supervises the performance of flight instructors and ensures their compliance with Federal Aviation Administration requirements.
- Audits instructional records for compliance with Federal Aviation Administration requirements and University standards, and ensures corrective actions are completed.
- Prepares or approves student enrollment and graduation certificates.
- Manages and directs all safety aspects for the College. Reports safety concerns accordingly. Coordinates communications for all aspects of safety and operations.
- Participates in post-accident investigations and ensures corrective actions are implemented.
- Hires, trains, evaluates, and supervises staff and student employees.
Minimum qualifications
Required education
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited institution.
Required experience
- Five years’ relevant experience.
- Supervisory or lead experience.
- Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
- Aviation industry experience.
Required other
- Federal Aviation Administration certification; Commercial Pilot Certificate, Airplane Single Engine Land (ASEL), Airplane Single Engine Sea (ASES), Airplane Multi Engine Land (AMEL).
- Federal Aviation Administration Instrument Instructor ratings; Certified Flight Instructor, Certified Flight Instructor – Instrument, Airplane Single Engine (ASE), Airplane Multi Engine (AME).
- Pilot and Instrument ratings for relevant aircraft.
- Must be available to provide instruction or serve as pilot-in-command outside of normal business hours.
- Must meet Federal Aviation Administration physical and medical standards for flight licensure.
Physical requirements
Light work with some physical demands such as continuously lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds, but rarely moving more than 25 to 50 pounds.
Working conditions
Work is performed with exposure to any number of elements which may occasionally require some precautions such as safety glasses, protective clothing, ear protection, etc.
