General summary

Designs and implements data solutions. Develops infrastructure for data collection to support the University business intelligence environment.

Major duties

  • Designs and builds data architecture, data pipelines, and data marts to support strategic data analytics and decision support across the university.
  • Defines and programs data warehouse structures and models.
  • Identifies and understands source data systems and data flow between systems. Adapts data pipelines to accommodate modifications triggered by source system changes or business requirements.
  • Integrates source systems and delivers self-serve business intelligence.
  • Enables and drives data quality and integrity initiatives in compliance with University standards. Designs and monitors data audits on enterprise databases and data marts.
  • Defines business requirements by conducting requirements gathering, analysis, specification, validation, and verification. Assesses the current state of systems and processes and designs a strategic end state.
  • Leads and participates in University project teams and work groups. Builds working relationships with product and technology stakeholders.
  • Maintains system software and databases. Plans and leads configurations, patches, and upgrades. Troubleshoots and documents common database issues.
  • Makes the data accessible to modern analysis tools while preserving protections of proprietary and limited access data. Ensures the security and confidentiality of data and reports and databases.
  • Documents functional and technical requirements for databases and business intelligence programs. Analyzes and documents business processes. Produces and organizes documentation, including flow diagrams, data dictionaries, and data model diagrams.

Minimum qualifications

Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.

Required education

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited institution, or a Bachelor’s degree in a non-related field from an accredited institution combined with relevant experience.

Required experience

  • Five years’ relevant experience.
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Database and data warehouse programming experience.
  • Experience establishing database and business intelligence standards and procedures.

Physical requirements

Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.

Working conditions

Work is generally performed in a well lit temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
