General summary
Designs and documents course or training materials incorporating technology tools.
Major duties
- Collaborates with subject matter experts to gather and document instructional goals and requirements.
- Defines and documents learning objectives. Selects appropriate instructional methods and tools in alignment with learning objectives. Applies design best practices and adult learning principles and methods.
- Develops and presents programs and materials to train subject matter experts on the uses of technology in classroom and online instruction.
- Collaborates with other staff to create visual, audio, and interactive learning tools and on-demand teaching and learning content. Ensures accessibility and inclusive practices. Conducts research to support innovation and improve teaching and learning.
- Ensures that course structure complies with the University’s requirements for accessibility and professional standards. Identifies opportunities to improve course content and collaborate with instructors on reflection and redesign.
- Collaborates with University staff and appropriate internal and external teams to identify, design, implement, and refine learning experiences, internal processes, and projects.
- Distributes final courses through the University’s learning management system. Supports instructors and troubleshoots distributed courses.
- Documents and reports projects and usage.
- Hires, trains, evaluates and supervises student employees.
Minimum qualifications
Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.
Required education
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited institution.
Required experience
- One year's relevant experience.
- Demonstrated experience in assessment of projects and learning needs.
- Knowledge of instructional design theories, models, and best practices.
- Experience designing online or hybrid learning experiences.
- Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work as a team member in a complex organization.
- Ability to work independently and use initiative to solve problems.
- Ability to work on multiple projects concurrently.
- Experience using learning management systems.
Desired qualifications
Desired education
- Master's degree in related field from an accredited institution.
Physical requirements
Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.
Working conditions
Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
