General summary

Manages the maintenance and construction of sports fields, facilities, complexes, and University green spaces.

Major duties

  • Manages construction, renovation, and reconstruction of University facilities performed by in-house and outside contractors.
  • Oversees the purchasing, maintenance, and repair of equipment used on sports fields as well as main campus.
  • Maintains accurate and complete records for inventory, weather data, maintenance procedures, and chemical applications.
  • Participates in master planning meetings and University user groups as appropriate.
  • Implements snow and ice removal on natural and synthetic fields, parking lots, sidewalks, steps, and bleachers.
  • Communicates regularly with top management to discuss activities, goals, plans, and user input. Also works with university groups vendors, contractors, coaches, players, and spectators.
  • Participates in master planning meetings and renders professional advice, opinion, and assistance to University user groups as needed.
  • Ensures a productive and safe work environment by remaining compliant with human resources policies and procedures, collective bargaining agreements, and safety regulations.
  • Monitors budgets and reviews and approves expenses.
  • Hires, trains, evaluates, and supervises staff and student employees.

Minimum qualifications

Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.

Required education

  • Bachelor's degree in related field from an accredited institution.

Required experience

  • Three years' relevant experience.
  • Supervisory experience in a collective bargaining environment.
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Project management experience.
  • Budget management experience.
  • Experience administering a collective bargaining agreement.
  • Knowledge of safety standards and regulations.

Physical requirements

Light work with some physical demands such as continuously lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds, but rarely moving more than 25 to 50 pounds.

Working conditions

Work is performed with exposure to any number of elements which may occasionally require some precautions such as safety glasses, protective clothing, ear protection, etc.
