General summary
Assists pharmacists in the prescription filling, dispensing and labeling process in a lead capacity.
Major duties
- Inputs prescription orders into the system, and assists pharmacists in filling prescriptions in a lead capacity.
- Purchases medication according to department standards as necessary. Oversees and orders inventory, stocks shelves, and performs a number of customer service duties.
- Performs inventory control tasks, including returning expired medications and tracking credits, shortages, and recalled items.
- Resolves complex issues, including third-party billing, systems and workflow, and customer service issues.
- Performs insurance billing and specialty billings. Coordinates the reconciliation and tracking of outstanding insurance receivables and tracks miscellaneous accounts.
- Trains and provides work direction to pharmacy technicians.
- Hires, trains, evaluates, and supervises student employees.
Minimum qualifications
Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.
Required education
- High school diploma or equivalent.
Required experience
- Three years' relevant experience.
Required other
- Pharmacy Technician certification (CPhT) through the National Technician Certification Board.
Physical requirements
Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.
Working conditions
Work is generally performed in a well lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors and/or any number of elements.
