General summary

Develops, evaluates and implements programs, services and marketing communications to contribute to the success of the University's dining services and addresses nutritional needs of dining service customers.

Major duties

  • Oversees nutrition and dietetics aspects of the University's dining services operations, including policy development, monitoring federal guidelines and ensuring compliance with applicable regulations. Develops department goals, policies and procedures related to specialized dietary requirements.
  • Participates and facilitates in management meetings. Represents dining service operations in University activities, including in the areas of sustainability, health and wellness, diversity, recruitment and retention.
  • Develops educational, marketing and other strategies to guide dining services customers. Develops informational and promotional communications related to dining services.
  • Participates in the menu planning process. Utilizes menu management systems in support of menus and maintains nutrition data for all menu items. Coordinates and implements food choices for special dietary needs.
  • Advocates for collegiate best practices for nutrition-related wellness for diverse student populations.
  • Facilitates assessment activities within dining services and makes recommendations to the department leadership on how dining services can better align with and contribute to the University strategic goals.
  • Collaborates with academic programs. Oversees students with experiential placements in dining services. Presents to academic classrooms regarding nutrition, dietary lifestyles and healthy behaviors as requested and appropriate.
  • Hires, trains, evaluates and supervises student employees.

Minimum qualifications

Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.

Required education

  • Bachelor's degree in related field from an accredited institution.

Required experience

  • One year's relevant experience.

Required other

  • ServSafe certified or the ability to obtain within 90 days of date of hire.
  • Registration as a dietitian per Commission on Dietetic Registration of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.

Physical requirements

Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.

Working conditions

Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
