General summary

Provides academic guidance and support services for students within the department.

Major duties

  • Supports and provides academic guidance to students. Performs periodic assessments and monitors student progress, while maintaining records of student interactions and outcomes.
  • Manages and assists in the implementation of educational and supportive services.
  • Coordinates, designs, and implements educational workshops for students and staff. Coordinates educational excursions for program participants.
  • Maintains participants records and collects data necessary for all reports and evaluation.
  • Develops and implements programs and initiatives to support student thriving.
  • Establishes working relationships with appropriate University departments and external agencies. Presents at national conferences and to the University community regarding best practices and effectiveness.
  • Assists in the development of retention strategies in relation to the student development model for the unit.
  • Hires, trains and supervises student employees.

Minimum qualifications

Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.

Required education

  • Bachelor's degree in related field from an accredited institution.

Required experience

  • Two years' relevant experience.
  • Experience working with a diverse college student population.

Required other

  • Ability to work irregular shifts and extended hours, including nights and weekends.

Physical requirements

Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.

Working conditions

Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
