Assistant Director Student Media

General summary

Oversees, advises and trains students in the Student Media group and other student engagement programs.

Major duties

  • Meets with and advises students on a regular basis.
  • Develops, coordinates, and participates in developmental and training meetings and retreats.
  • Works with the student media group board to develop strategic plans. Manages the student budget. Evaluates programs and services.
  • Maintains media-related computers, technology, equipment, and furniture. Coordinates office access for student staff and assists with maintaining office security.
  • Serves on various committees. Develops relationships with strategic partners.
  • Develops evaluation process for programs and services. Creates and measures student learning outcomes. Measures student media impact and success.
  • Assists with fundraising, advertising, purchasing and receiving. Monitors expenditure and revenue transactions, accounting, and record-keeping.
  • Coordinates and supports programs. Stays up to date on legal, ethical, and procedural issues pertaining to student media. Develops policies and ethics manuals. Monitors required licenses.

Minimum qualifications

Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.

Required education

  • Bachelor's degree in related field from an accredited institution.

Required experience

  • Five years' relevant experience.
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Supervisory or lead experience.
  • Management experience in media.
  • Experience training or coaching.
  • Experience with budget and strategic planning.
  • Experience with relationship development and sales.

Required other

  • Ability to work irregular shifts and extended hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to travel across campus.

Physical requirements

Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.

Working conditions

Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
