General summary

Oversees campus publications and manages distribution of University news stories.

Major duties

  • Oversees production of assigned University publications, including commencement programs and the University-wide directory. Oversees data and layout. Writes and proofreads publications. Maintains schedule for completion.
  • Manages the electronic distribution of University news releases, including final proofing of all releases.
  • Develops and updates data on alumni by monitoring news stories and alerts. Creates editorial assessments and writes a section in the University's magazine to detail alumni accomplishments.
  • Manages database of University retirees for use by various University departments.
  • Writes news releases and obituaries for local distribution.
  • Organizes and distributes lists of new University graduates to news media following the conclusion of each semester.

Minimum qualifications

Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.

Required education

  • Bachelor's degree in related field from an accredited institution.

Required experience

  • Two years' relevant experience.
  • Knowledge of Associated Press style guidelines.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple assignments.
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.

Physical requirements

Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.

Working conditions

Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
