General summary

Manages the daily operations of the department, and develops and manages training of custodial staff.

Major duties

  • Develops, documents and presents training for all levels of custodial staff. Evaluates effectiveness of training and updates content as needed.
  • Documents and promotes procedures to ensure safety and quality standards are maintained. Monitors safety compliance.
  • Hires, trains, evaluates performance and supervises staff and student employees in compliance with a collective bargaining agreement and University policies and procedures.
  • Inspects buildings or special project areas to ensure quality of custodial services. Conducts regular quality control audits.
  • Reviews work requests or customer service issues to identify and implement improvements in custodial service.
  • Manages contracts with outside vendors.
  • Prepares reports and analyses for management.

Minimum qualifications

Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.

Required education

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited institution

Required experience

  • Three years’ relevant experience.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Training and development experience.

Required other

  • Relevant industry certification, or the ability to obtain the certification within six months from hire date.
  • Valid driver's license.

Desired qualifications

Desired experience

  • Supervisory experience in a collective bargaining environment.
  • Experience administering a collective bargaining agreement.

Physical requirements

Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.

Working conditions

Work is performed with exposure to any number of elements which may occasionally require some precautions such as safety glasses, protective clothing, ear protection, etc.
