General summary

Manages the processing, disbursement, accounting, and reconciliation functions for private and alternative student loans. Serves as liaison between the financial aid office and private lenders.

Major duties

  • Responsible for daily certification and disbursement of private and alternative student loans. Ensures loans are processed efficiently and applied accurately.
  • Reconciles transactions between the student information system and financial system. Reviews and implements processes and procedures that support program administration from receipt to disbursement and reconciliation of funds.
  • Serves as the liaison to private and alternative lenders to ensure products and communications meet University standards. Conveys information about program requirements and deadlines to the University.
  • Establishes and maintains policies and procedures regarding private alternative loans, ensuring that they align with University and federal policy. Trains staff on loan processing and related policies and procedures.
  • Researches, creates, and provides guidance and support on auditing practices for federal, state, and institutional programs and budgets. Researches and explores options for improving and automating disbursement, returns, and reconciliations.
  • Assists with scholarship-related budgeting, reconciling, accounting, and auditing functions.
  • Resolves issues and questions from students, staff, and faculty.

Minimum qualifications

Required education

  • Bachelor's degree in related field from an accredited institution.

Required experience

  • Three years' relevant experience.
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of federal, state and institutional financial aid regulations and guidelines.
  • Budget, institutional and fund management experience.
  • Spreadsheet and office software proficiency.
  • Accounting system experience.

  • Five years' relevant experience.

Physical requirements

Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.

Working conditions

Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
