General summary

Provides information technology expertise to University researchers.

Major duties

  • Advises research administration, faculty and staff regarding information technology necessary to support research projects or the larger research enterprise.
  • Prepares or reviews research or grant proposals, ensuring information technology specifications and cost estimates are accurate.
  • Leads or participates in the information technology product review and contract review processes to ensure University standards are maintained.
  • Collaborates with external agencies and academic institutions to promote the University’s research initiatives.
  • Participates in the information technology strategic planning activities.

Minimum qualifications

Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.

Required education

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited institution, or a Bachelor’s degree in a non-related field combined with relevant experience.

Required experience

  • Eight years’ relevant experience.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience with aspects of the information technology project life-cycle, including hands-on experience with programming, systems administration, software administration, project management, database administration, vendor and contract negotiations, and technology-related product reviews.

Physical requirements

Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.

Working conditions

Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
