General summary
Develops and implements influencing communication strategies and partnerships that increase awareness and support for the University’s programs and services.
Major duties
- Collaborates with external communities and stakeholders to identify strategic community partners. Initiates, builds and enhances relationships to increase competitiveness, leverage existing resources and create new resources.
- Directs community engagement efforts, including strategy development and implementation. Represents the division with internal and external audiences. Interfaces with University-wide efforts toward public outreach and engagement.
- Assesses community needs, defines opportunities and develops relationship-building strategies and plans for implementation of new collaborative community-based programs, partnerships and other engagement initiatives to maximize regional community resources.
- Connects University programs, research and major initiatives with corporate, non-profit, government and education stakeholders.
- Develops and maintains tracking and monitoring mechanisms for internal and external evaluation of community engagement initiatives. Builds and maintains a partnership knowledge base that documents ongoing partnership projects, success measures and overall impact.
- Identifies opportunities to grow external research funds through external connections at universities.
- Represents the University at community meetings, boards and events.
- Supervises staff.
Minimum qualifications
Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.
Required education
- Master's degree in related field from an accredited institution, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required experience
- Eight years’ relevant experience.
- Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
Required other
- Ability to travel in-state and out-of-state.
- Ability to work irregular shifts and extended hours, including weekends and holidays.
Physical requirements
Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.
Working conditions
Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
