General summary
Builds, upgrades, maintains, and extends web content management systems and other web applications and services.
Major duties
- Manages and executes all phases of the web software development life cycle, including planning, requirements analysis, design, development, testing, deployment, and iteration for web content management systems and other web applications and services.
- Designs and develops the University-wide web content management system using the University’s approved software. Serves as the software architect, designing algorithms, writing code, and reviewing code developed by others.
- Provides technical support and assistance to other content management system users and staff.
- Designs and builds software to ensure websites and web applications are compliant with content, design, and accessibility standards. Collaborates with staff to identify compliance issues and implement solutions.
- Researches and recommends appropriate technology solutions to meet client needs and fulfill strategic goals.
- Monitors and reports on performance, tests, and installs software updates for web content management systems and web applications.
- Participates in and provides expertise to campus-wide councils, committees, and user groups that oversee the University’s Web presence.
- Collaborates with staff and external vendors to design and implement application program interfaces that integrate web content management systems with other software applications and web services.
- Creates and maintains support documentation, change logs, test protocols, and performance benchmarks.

Required education
- Bachelor’s degree in related field from an accredited institution.
Required experience
- Three years’ relevant experience.
- Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience documenting technical and content standards.
- Strong requirement analysis, object-oriented design, testing and validation skills.
- Strong attention to detail.
Desired qualifications
Desired experience
- Familiarity with the University’s web content management system.
- Experience working in an agile, test-driven development team.
- Experience using a version control system.
Desired other
- Relevant industry certification.
Physical requirements
Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.
Working conditions
Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
