General summary

Designs, implements and administers information technology infrastructure in order to support enterprise and research applications in a lead capacity.

Major duties

  • Designs and documents requirements for hardware, firmware, operating and storage systems to meet the University’s information technology needs.
  • Evaluates and deploys patches, upgrades and enhancements.
  • Monitors system and network performance. Investigates and resolves problems affecting system performance.
  • Researches, plans and executes upgrades to infrastructure components in order to provide enhancements and maintain support. Researches and evaluates industry hardware, software and standards to ensure compliance with information technology and University requirements.
  • Remains current with storage and virtualization best practices through vendor and non-vendor publication and vendor meetings.
  • Provides training to end users or develops programs or documentation for end-user training. Provides technical support to end-users. Mentors departmental staff on virtual infrastructure administration.

Minimum qualifications

Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.

Required education

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field from an accredited institution, or a Bachelor’s degree in a non-related field from an accredited institution combined with relevant experience.

Required experience

  • Five years' relevant experience.
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience installing and maintaining hardware and software.
  • Experience maintaining system documentation.
  • Experience working on cross functional information technology teams.
  • Programming experience.
  • Project management experience.

Required other

  • Applicable industry certification or relevant experience.
  • Must be available to provide system maintenance or end-user support outside of normal business hours.

Physical requirements

Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.

Working conditions

Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
