General summary
Responsible for increasing University brand strength and competitive advantage through the development and execution of media strategies.
Major duties
- Develops and executes communications strategies that strengthen the University brand and increase visibility and competitive advantage in target markets.
- Develops and leads a comprehensive media strategy that increases brand-aligned media placements and executive placements that increase brand awareness. Develops and refines owned media channels. Oversees the University magazine.
- Leads issue and crisis communications management preparedness and response.
- Serves as the University’s primary spokesperson.
- Oversees the University’s strategic communications team within the division. Leads all communications personnel throughout the University with influence and strategic relationships.
- Leads executive communications, including thought leadership, executive positioning and visibility, as well as the creation of remarks, briefings and backgrounders for executives.
- Provides guidance, management and oversight of the division as needed on a day-to-day basis.
- Accepts constructive critique when given and quickly adapts approaches.
- Advances a new organizational culture by demonstrating mission-focus, goal-orientation and a collaborative spirit in the discharge of duties.
Minimum qualifications
Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.
Required education
- Bachelor's degree in related field from an accredited institution.
Required experience
- Eight years' relevant experience.
- Excellent leadership skills and strong judgment.
- Excellent communication skills.
Physical requirements
Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.
Working conditions
Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
