General summary
Oversees academic support programs that provide knowledge, awareness, and skills to first-year students. Collaborates with internal partners to design and implement programs that provide seamless support to students. Pursues marketing efforts to increase campus awareness of programs.
Major duties
- Meets with students to answer questions and address concerns surrounding all dimensions of well-being. Provides academic advising and coaching to undergraduate students. Educates on the purpose and progress of academic support programs.
- Participates in advisor training and professional development. Works with admissions to educate students and families on academic support programs. Serves as a liaison between the University and other Universities, and coordinates volunteer work with local organizations.
- Trains student employees to support other students. Sets goals for first year experience classes and develops assignments for programs.
- Collaborates with student employees and co-instructors to develop programing that meets the health and wellbeing, and academic needs of first-year students. Develops the mission and vision for programs.
- Collaborates with the registrar to identify eligible students for academic support programs and advertises program to academically dismissed students. Collects information and processes applications. Reviews applications and refers applicants for readmissions. Facilitates orientation for academic support programs.
- May serve on relevant committees with a special focus on diversity, equity and inclusion. May also support in interviewing candidates and representing the academic college in recruitment and promotional events.
- Develops and administers departmental budgets. Ensures fiscal responsibility.
- Hires, trains, evaluates, and supervises staff and student employees.
Minimum qualifications
Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.
Required education
- Master's degree in related field from an accredited institution.
Required experience
- Five years' relevant experience.
- Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills.
Physical requirements
Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.
Working conditions
Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
