General summary

Develops, implements and leads diversity education and advocacy for the University and Kalamazoo community.

Major duties

  • Directs workshops and programming for professional development to mentor a diverse body of undergraduate students and produce learning community projects to result positive change.
  • Advises the University community to ensure inclusive, student-centered focus in respective professional and mentoring roles.
  • Collaborates with University units to develop relationships to promote participation in diversity and inclusion based upon analyses of campus needs.
  • Creates, leads and enhances dialogue programs. Identifies, recruits and supervises keynote speakers and facilitators.
  • Oversees the development and implementation of assessment tools to measure effectiveness of program. Implements, improves and determines when its necessary to develop new models based upon assessments, discusses with constituents and partners, and research of best practices.
  • Projects and monitors expenses and prepares program budgets. Processes personnel forms, independent contracts and requests for proposals.
  • Manages social media, website and print and electronic marketing materials for all program promotions.
  • Recruits, hires, trains and evaluates staff and student employees. Directs office personnel and resolves personnel and operational matters.

Minimum qualifications

Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.

Required education

  • Master's degree in related field from an accredited institution.

Required experience

  • Five years' relevant experience.
  • Supervisory or lead experience.
  • Budget management experience.
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.

Physical requirements

Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.

Working conditions

Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
