Senior Director Facilities Management

General summary

Oversees and manages the operation units within facility management, ensuring exceptional service. Provides financial recommendations that broadly impact area of responsibility and contributes to decisions that impact facilities management and the University.

Major duties

  • Provides leadership to the operations division which includes custodial, maintenance, landscape, power plant, transportation, service center, waste reduction and labor relations.
  • Develops and updates operational policies and procedures.
  • Ensures that individual operating units work cohesively as one group. Promotes open communication between units.
  • Guides budget review and recommendations.
  • Works with operating units to improve business and operational processes.
  • Ensures key performance indicators for each unit are concise and measurable.
  • Collaborates closely with associate vice president to ensure facilities management vision and mission are being met.
  • Responsible for professional development and team building among directors.
  • Prepares deferred maintenance reports and other reports as assigned.

Minimum qualifications

Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.

Required education

  • Master’s degree in a related field from an accredited institution or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited institution combined with a professional license.

Required experience

  • Five years’ relevant experience.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience leading facilities management operating units.

Desired education

  • Master’s degree in a related field from an accredited institution.
  • Relevant industry certification.

Physical requirements

Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.

Working conditions

Work is performed with exposure to any number of elements which may occasionally require some precautions such as safety glasses, protective clothing, ear protection, etc.
