General summary

Conducts accessibility reviews of courses across all instructional formats that use digital learning technologies and materials. Evaluates course content, Learning Management System (LMS) configurations, documents, presentations, and multimedia using established accessibility standards, including the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) and federal guidelines.

Major duties

  • Conducts accessibility reviews of courses across all instructional formats that use digital learning technologies and materials. Evaluates course content, Learning Management System (LMS) configurations, documents, presentations, and multimedia using established accessibility standards, including the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) and federal guidelines.
  • Documents findings using established accessibility review frameworks and communicates recommendations to instructional design and educational technology teams, consulting directly with faculty on complex accessibility issues as needed.
  • Performs accessibility remediation of documents, presentations, multimedia, and learning management system (LMS) content when feasible. Identifies materials requiring external remediation and coordinates vendor support, referral processes, or alternative formats to ensure accessibility. Manages assigned work within the course accessibility intake and triage process overseen leadership.
  • Creates and maintains accessibility guidance, training, and documentation to support accessible course design and help instructional design and educational technology staff integrate accessibility into course development and redesign processes.
  • Supports instructional accessibility compliance tracking and reporting; identifies accessibility trends, risks, and improvement opportunities; and provides data-driven insights to inform program planning and leadership reporting.
  • Assists in evaluating the accessibility of instructional technologies, LMS tools, and third-party applications by identifying accessibility risks and recommending mitigation strategies to support technology review and procurement decisions.
  • Collaborates to integrate accessibility into course design and development. Applies knowledge of accessibility standards, legislation, and assistive technology best practices to support accessible learning experiences across modalities. Maintains current expertise and contributes to continuous improvement of accessibility processes and resources within department.
  • Supports emerging accessibility needs, contribute to department initiatives, and respond to evolving accessibility requirements, standards, and institutional priorities.

Minimum qualifications

Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.

Required education

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited institution.

Required experience

  • Five years' relevant experience.
  • Progressively responsible experience in digital accessibility, accessibility studies, or a related area.
  • Demonstrated experience applying digital accessibility standards including Web Content Accessibility Guidelines and compliance to instructional materials and digital content.
  • Experience reviewing and remediating documents, multimedia, and web-based content for accessibility.
  • Experience identifying referral pathways and support options for content that cannot be directly remediated.
  • Working knowledge of learning management systems and instructional technologies.
  • Ability to communicate accessibility findings and concepts clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage assigned workflow within established processes.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.

Physical requirements

Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.

Working conditions

Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
