General summary

Responsible for processing student scholarships and related reporting.

Major duties

  • Responsible for processing University scholarships, grants, athletic awards and private donor scholarships.
  • Monitors and tracks data, including preparing reports and statistics to support internal and external scholarships, for analysis and reimbursement reporting.
  • Executes over-award corrections for financial aid, including tuition remission and state of Michigan scholarships and grants, completes payable vouchers to outside organizations to reimburse donors when students do not enroll.
  • Completes financial aid information forms for various outside foundations and external parties involved in grants and scholarships, per University and federal data sharing regulations. May identify trends, develop recommendations, and implement processes and procedures to improve scholarship areas.
  • Assists University departments in resolving discrepancies and provides information on policies and procedures concerning scholarships.
  • Makes various deposits to cashiering, copies checks for imaging system and reconciles private donor and University accounts.
  • Assists with the creation and maintenance of the scholarship policy and procedures handbook.

Minimum qualifications

Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.

Required education

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Required experience

  • One year's experience.
  • Accounting system experience.
  • Experience with using and querying databases, including the student information system and external systems.
  • Understanding of the fundamentals of financial aid awards and scholarships.
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.

Physical requirements

Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.

Working conditions

Work is generally performed in a well-lit temperature controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
