General summary

Responsible for operational and administrative activities in direct support of acquiring, developing, scheduling, and evaluating program and digital content for the department.

Major duties

  • Supervises and monitors all on-air and online content operations, including taking lead in acquisition, research, development, creation, scheduling and evaluation of programming and other content for the department’s news, information and music services. Ensures that all content is conducted within the parameters of the department’s mission and purpose, growth goals, strategic plan, licensee directives, and rules and regulations.
  • Builds, develops, trains and supervises a unified content team of journalists, announcers, hosts, volunteers and independent producers in the creation of compelling public radio content designed to further the mission and vision of the department. Provides broad content objectives.
  • Directs and works with operational assistants in support of technical operations for all of the department’s stations in relation to automation, traffic schedule, studio and on-air broadcasting system, and on-air certifications.
  • Coordinates with managers and operational assistants for underwriting placement, public service announcements and promotions.
  • Assists the director with on-air and digital fundraising.

Minimum qualifications

Required education

  • Bachelor's degree in related field from an accredited institution.

Required experience

  • Five years' relevant experience.
  • Supervisory or lead experience.
  • Familiarity with FCC regulations.
  • Experience in audio-based journalism.
  • Basic knowledge of news ethics and best journalistic practices.
  • Demonstrated experience with automation systems, schedule, and digital audio production.
  • Understanding of broadcast and digital audience metrics, and national public media trends.

Physical requirements

Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.

Working conditions

Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
