General summary

Oversees the departmental onboarding and training process for new custodians. Supervises a custodial crew in daily cleaning and maintenance.

Major duties

  • Hires, trains, evaluates, and supervises staff and student employees in compliance with a collective bargaining agreement and University policies and procedures.
  • Provides technical training to custodial employees. Evaluates and updates employee training reports and training schedules while maintaining service standards.
  • Develops and maintains department policy and handbooks for collective bargaining employees.
  • Reviews, prioritizes, and distributes work assignments for the custodial crew.
  • Distributes and collects keys, radios, and any necessary equipment; collects these at the end of each shift.
  • Inspects areas daily to ensure quality standards are maintained. Monitors compliance with safety procedures. Maintains work and inspection records. Documents discipline, safety issues, or other issues.
  • Communicates with building occupants or event organizers. Supervises services before and after events.
  • Monitors supply inventory.

Minimum qualifications

Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.

Required education

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Required experience

  • Some relevant experience.
  • Supervisory or lead experience.
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.

Required other

  • Relevant industry certification, or the ability to obtain the certification within six months from hire date. Valid driver's license.

Desired qualifications

Desired experience

  • Supervisory experience in a collective bargaining environment. Experience administering a collective bargaining agreement.

Physical requirements

Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.

Working conditions

Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
