General summary
Leverages the University's digital presence to enhance user experience and effectiveness of all strategic digital communication channels. Remains current on best practices, industry needs and competitive landscape.
Major duties
- Analyzes, acts, and advises on digital data points to improve content and processes to best reach internal and external audiences of Western Michigan University.
- Manages the division's mass email communication system, including development of new functionality and maintenance of existing functionality.
- Evaluates, advises on and audits website content created by University departments in accordance with industry standards and University policies.
- Collaborates with University departments, marketing managers, webmasters, and external vendors to establish infrastructure requirements, design and writing standards, procedures, and deployment plans for digital communication channels.
- Supervisors the web developer senior and leads the division’s digital strategy efforts and work team.
- Oversees the design, architecture and development of the University wide web content management system using the University’s approved software. Ensures industry best practices for website development and accessibility as well as institutional needs are followed.
- Participates in and provides expertise to campuswide councils, committees and user groups that oversee the University’s web presence or as needed by the leadership.
- Other duties as assigned that help drive to our vision, fulfill our mission, and abide by our University’s values.

Required education
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited institution, or bachelor’s degree in a non-related field from an accredited institution combined with relevant experience.
Required experience
- Required Experience:
- Five years' relevant experience.
- Supervisory experience.
- Experience creating digital content on website management system and digital experience platforms with content architecture supporting a large-scale web presence.
- Experience with establishing, enhancing, and utilizing a comprehensive platforms, for managing and coordinating marketing and strategic communications across multiple channels, including mass email and texting.
- Experience leading digital strategy project teams.
- Proven understanding of best practices, standards, and current trends in web design, including Conversion Rate Optimization, Search Engine Marketing and Search Engine Optimization.
- Ability to develop, plan and execute multiple projects simultaneously.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
Physical requirements
Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.
Working conditions
Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
