Geoscience Samples and Data Specialist (Part-Time)

General summary

Coordinates the Michigan Geological Repository for Research and Education archived samples and data.

Major duties

  • Acquires and preserves subsurface geological samples and paper data.
  • Supervises students and temporary staff conducting data inventories and data entry. Designs the databases for these inventories.
  • Secures and maintains partnerships with industry and government and writes collaborative agreements. Provides geological data to industry and government.
  • Assists principal investigator in seeking research funding and administers grants.
  • Maintains donor relations and conducts public relations in print and broadcast media.

Minimum qualifications

Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.

Required education

  • Bachelor's degree in related field from an accredited institution.

Required experience

  • Three years' relevant experience.
  • Experience and knowledge of Michigan geology.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.

Physical requirements

Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.

Working conditions

Work is performed with exposure to any number of elements which may occasionally require some precautions such as safety glasses, protective clothing, ear protection, etc.
