Geosciences Specialist (Part-Time)

Conducts geological characterizations and modeling of geological strata.

• Conducts geological characterizations and modeling of geological strata using geophysical logs, core description, determination of facies and environment of deposition.
• Assists visiting geologists by preparing geological cores and samples for their examination, providing them with samples for analyses and geophysical well data.
• Provides information technology assistance to staff members by searching all public records of geological information relative to Michigan Geological Repository for Research and Education collections and acquiring metadata.
• Assists Michigan Geological Repository for Research and Education samples and data coordinator by providing current spreadsheets of sample inventories.
• Prepares materials for and helps conduct outreach programs to industry, government and the K-12 educational community.
• Supervises and trains student employees.

Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.

• Bachelor's degree in related field from an accredited institution.

• Three years' relevant experience.
• Experience conducting geological characterizations and modeling of geological strata.
• Geological software experience.
• Research experience gathering background information and field samples used to determine the quantity and quality of resources available at a particular site.

Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.

Work is performed with exposure to any number of elements which may occasionally require some precautions such as safety glasses, protective clothing, ear protection, etc.
