General summary

Manages administrative and financial activities for the University’s Medieval Studies program as well as provides advising to graduate students. Oversees exhibits hall during conference.

Major duties

  • Assists in planning intellectual and practical studies of the International Congress on Medieval Studies, including the production of print and web-based materials associated with the enterprise, employing, subject expertise, organizational acumen, and database management.
  • Monitors, tracks, and reconciles finances for the Medieval Institute publications.
  • Manages, coordinates and staffs exhibits hall of the International Congress on Medieval Studies. Maintains a database and communicates with scholarly presses, booksellers and artisans.
  • Assists in fostering intellectual development of graduate students through course offerings, supervising directed studies and independent research projects.
  • Conducts scholarly research and maintains a scholarly profile.
  • Provides direction to research application assistants as well as administrative support for Institute’s research centers.
  • Catalogs library materials for the Institute’s research centers
  • Hires, trains, evaluates and supervises staff and temporary employees

Minimum qualifications

Required education

  • Master's degree in related field from an accredited institution.

Required experience

  • One year's relevant experience.
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Office software skills, including word-processing, presentations, spreadsheets and databases.
  • Experience monitoring and reconciling budgets.

Physical requirements

Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.

Working conditions

Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
