Assistant Director Medieval Studies

Plans and schedules the International Congress on Medieval Studies. Supports implementation of academic programs, including teaching and graduate training. Collaborates on publication budgeting and planning. Contributes to maintaining the Institute’s research profile.

• Supports the planning and execution of the International Congress on Medieval Studies (ICMS) by managing submissions, coordinating proposal reviews, communicating with participants, organizing sessions and events, and assisting with logistics, scheduling, and public-facing materials.
• Supports Medieval Studies programs by teaching courses, mentoring and training graduate teaching assistants, and supervising student research and thesis work.
• Assists with budgeting, financial monitoring, strategic planning, and operational coordination for Medieval Institute Publications, including vendor and exhibit management.
• Maintains the Institute’s international research profile by conducting and presenting scholarly work, supporting research centers and library operations.
• Hires, trains, evaluates and supervises student employees.

• Doctoral degree in related field from an accredited institution.

• Three years' relevant experience.
• Excellent oral and written communications.
• Office software skills, including word-processing, presentations, spreadsheets and databases.
• Experience with teaching in higher education in a related discipline.
• Strong organizational skills.
• Ability to meet multiple deadlines.
• Ability to work independently, make decisions autonomously, solve problems, and react to complex and emergent situations.
• Experience working in a university environment.

• Must be available for the entire week (including the weekend) for the International Congress on Medieval Studies.

Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.

Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
