General summary
Oversees and directs the daily operations of the Office for Sustainability related to student employees. Directs programs, initiatives, and events. Provides administrative support, cross-campus collaboration, and manages communication output.
Major duties
- Manages and evaluates sustainability programs and projects on campus and at offsite research and demonstration locations. Conducts data analysis, prepares reports, delivers presentations, and monitors performance of ongoing and pilot initiatives.
- Plans and administers sustainability-related events, including logistics, scheduling, registration, programming, and student staffing. Collaborates with campus departments to support event coordination and engagement.
- Manages office operations including travel, payroll, and human resources functions to ensure compliance with University policies and procedures.
- Manages purchasing, contracts, budget transfers, and external grants to support sustainability initiatives. Assists with budget planning and researches funding opportunities for programs and projects.
- Supervises and evaluates student, temporary, and graduate assistant staff. Oversees student workflow and resolves personnel-related operational issues.
- Communicates unit activities and outcomes through digital platforms to support recruitment, awareness, and reporting. Ensures content meets University and accessibility standards.
- Responds independently to students, faculty, and staff regarding unit operations and programs. Develops and explains unit policies and procedures for students.
- Films, edits, and produces unit videos for outgoing communications maintaining archives of unit programs and events.
- Serves as building coordinator for sustainability office facilities, including the University’s offsite research and demonstration location.
Minimum qualifications
Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.
Required education
- Bachelor's degree in related field from an accredited institution.
Required experience
- Three years' relevant experience.
- Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills.
Physical requirements
Moderate work occasionally working in difficult position or with physical demands such as continuously lifting or moving materials from 25 to 50 pounds and occasionally lifting or moving materials greater than 50 pounds.
Working conditions
Work is performed with exposure to any number of elements which may occasionally require some precautions such as safety glasses, protective clothing, ear protection, etc.
