General summary

Develops and leads sustainability programs and initiatives to educate and engage the University student body through experience driven learning opportunities. Oversees communications and continuously improves communication strategies.

Major duties

  • Designs and implements sustainability programs and University-wide initiatives to educate and engage the student body and their campus sustainability priorities.
  • Collaborates and supports the unit with the infusion of sustainability advancement across the University.
  • Coordinates the assessment of program infrastructure to ensure alignment with the University’s overall sustainability strategic goals.
  • Develops and implements student technical skill-building activities to promote future sustainability leaders.
  • Oversees and continuously improves communication strategies for the unit.
  • Coordinates professional development efforts for the department for undergraduate and graduate students. Assists with the development and implementation of comprehensive policies and procedures.
  • Assists with operational and strategic planning for the unit.
  • Serves as a liaison between students and department collaborators.
  • Executes shared unit administration tasks including budget review, payroll, purchasing, hiring and contracts. Serves as the Director’s representative when the Director is unavailable.
  • Hires, trains, evaluates and supervises student employees and graduate assistants.

Minimum qualifications

Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.

Required education

  • Master's degree in related field from an accredited institution

Required experience

  • Five years' relevant experience.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
  • University-wide organizational awareness.

Physical requirements

Moderate work occasionally working in difficult positions or with physical demands such as continuously lifting or moving materials from 25 to 50 pounds and occasionally lifting or moving materials greater than 50 pounds.

Working conditions

Work is performed with exposure to any number of elements which may occasionally require some precautions such as safety glasses, protective clothing, ear protection, etc.
