General summary
Oversees technical staff and ensures all required support is provided for programs and productions.
Major duties
- Hires, trains, evaluates, and supervises staff and student employees.
- Contracts and estimates the projected costs. Responsible for guaranteeing that signed contracts are satisfied.
- Responsible for the accounting and financials of all production including payroll, vouchers, credit cards, and estimated cost.
- Communicates with various parties to ensure needs are met.
- Monitors the condition and safety of equipment. Arranges for the repair and replacement within budgetary constraints.
- Resolves conflicts between different crews efficiently.
- Maintains up-to-date knowledge of technical advances in the entertainment industry. Aids in the design and planning of equipment upgrades and development.
- Works collaboratively with University personnel, production crews, and the public as needed to provide excellent customer service.
- Makes final decisions regarding purchases of equipment in the technical area.
Minimum qualifications
Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.
Required education
- Bachelor's degree in related field from an accredited institution, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required experience
- Five years' relevant experience.
- Supervisory experience.
- Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Exceptional attention to detail.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Strong office software skills, including word processing and spreadsheets.
- Strong problem-solving, and administrative skills.
- Ability to multitask, prioritize and work under pressure.

- Ability to work irregular shifts and extended hours, including weekends and holidays.

- Familiarity with NFPA 101: Life Safety code.
Physical requirements
Light work with some physical demands such as continuously lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds, but rarely moving more than 25 to 50 pounds.
Working conditions
Work is performed in an environment with extremely disagreeable or hazardous working conditions with exposure to any number of elements and hazards on a continual basis.
