General summary
Interprets prescription orders and dispenses prescription medication to the University community. Provides education regarding medication use, interactions and side effects.
Major duties
- Interprets and fills prescription orders. Ensures standard protocols for accuracy are met.
- Counsels patients and provides written documentation regarding intended use, medication use, side effects and interactions.
- Collaborates with other health professionals to provide service to patients.
- Oversees insurance billing and provides patient education on prescription benefit plans.
- Ensures the pharmacy passes accreditation inspections and required audits.
- Maintain adequate inventory of all control substances as required by the State Board.
- May serve on departmental and division-wide committees.
- Hires, trains, evaluates, and supervises pharmacist technicians and student employees.
Minimum qualifications
Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.
Required education
- Bachelor's degree in related field from an accredited institution.
Required experience
- One year's relevant experience.
- Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
Required other
- State of Michigan Board of Pharmacy license.
Physical requirements
Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.
Working conditions
Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
