General summary

Manages facility asset data collection, performs data analysis with planned obsolescence, and leads the annual capital renewal recommendations for major facility components and systems. Provides technical planning, managing building operating equipment, and managing the University building automation system.

Major duties

  • Manages asset data collection for major facility components and systems.
  • Develops strategic plans for components and systems using life cycle cost principles.
  • Manages planned obsolescence process using total cost of ownership methodology.
  • Oversees the University’s annual capital renewal program for physical assets.
  • Documents requirements and monitors performance of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems.
  • Provides leadership with automated controls for building equipment.
  • Investigates problems with building operating equipment to check for control system or mechanical failures.
  • Collaborates with engineers on control designs. Reviews construction drawings for compliance with the University's energy-related engineering standards and provides feedback to design professionals or outside contractors.

Minimum qualifications

Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.

Required education

  • Bachelor's degree in related field from an accredited institution

Required experience

  • Five years' relevant experience.
  • Experience with facility asset management.
  • Knowledge of heating ventilation and air conditioning mechanical and control systems.
  • Experience reading technical drawings and construction or engineering specifications.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of computers and networking.

Physical requirements

Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.

Working conditions

Work is performed with exposure to any number of elements which may occasionally require some precautions such as safety glasses, protective clothing, ear protection, etc.
