General summary

Responsible for recording, monitoring, and reconciling university financial transactions to support accurate financial reporting. Prepares reports and analyses and assists with accounting operations, reconciliations, and other related duties as assigned.

Major duties

  • Executes monthly and year-end general ledger close processes, performs reconciliations, and ensures compliance with governmental accounting standards.
  • Provides financial analysis and reporting for University departments campus-wide and recommends process improvements to promote efficiency, accuracy, and compliance.
  • Manages the University's fixed asset system, including input and output control processes that ensure the accuracy and integrity of asset data, and serves as the functional lead for system upgrades.
  • Manages capitalization of major construction projects.
  • Oversees review and tagging of fixed assets exceeding capitalization thresholds; and partners with select departments to ensure accurate asset tracking and funding management.
  • Manages the University's debt portfolio, including related accounting entries, and oversees internal and external funding for capital projects, including the Bond Savings account.
  • Manages and maintains compliance with Governmental Accounting Standards Board lease and subscription-based information technology arrangement standards.
  • Collaborates with external auditors to facilitate the annual audit and prepares year-end workpapers, reconciliations, and supporting documentation to ensure accurate audit completion.
  • Woks collaboratively to identify and implement new accounting standards and maintain compliance with all accounting and reporting regulations.

Required education

  • Bachelor's degree in related field from an accredited institution.

Required experience

  • Two years' relevant experience.
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Experience with office software, including word processing, spreadsheets and presentation software.

Physical requirements

Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.

Working conditions

Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
