General summary
Oversees multiple targeted academic student support programs and works collaboratively with campus partners to provide holistic student support.
Major duties
- Establishes direction and provides oversight for multiple student support programs serving specific populations such as veterans, first-generation students, students from low-income families, and historically underserved students.
- Works collaboratively with college leadership team and campus partners to provide integrated, holistic student supports. Assesses the effectiveness and impact of programs on student success in higher education.
- Ensures that programming, practices, and policies are consistent with best practices and emerging trends in relevant fields.
- Promotes and ensures innovative approaches to diversity, equity, and inclusion across all reporting units.
- Monitors and approves budgets and staffing for reporting units.
- Serves on appropriate college and university committees.
- Actively seeks and applies for external funding.
- Hires, trains, evaluates and supervises staff.
Minimum qualifications
Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.
Required education
- Master's degree in related field from an accredited institution.
Required experience
- Five years' relevant experience.
- Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience working directly with and providing programming for higher education students represented in targeted programs (first-generation college students, students from low-income families, and students from historically underserved populations).
- Supervisory or lead experience.
- Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with a diverse team.
- Demonstrable commitment to student success and inclusive excellence.

Desired experience
- Comprehensive understanding of undergraduate higher education and state policy related to underserved populations, particularly financial aid.
- Experience successfully seeking and administration of external funding.
Physical requirements
Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.
Working conditions
Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
