General summary

Develops and implements electronic marketing, promotion, and communication strategies. Supervises communication staff. Ensures communication staff operate within the marketing message guidelines.

Major duties

  • Develops communication schedule and plan for all fundraising appeals and engagement messaging for events, University funds, and alumni news.
  • Coordinates with graphic designers and content creators in messaging to alumni and donors on funds, alumni and donor relations, and determines channel and frequency of messaging.
  • Works to ensure deliverability of email and stewards audience through social media.
  • Maintains short message service marketing lists and oversees reporting. Ensures that short message service practices adhere to all Federal Communications Commission guidelines and laws.
  • Oversees all University alumni association social media channels, including writing, photography and video output.
  • May approve advertising within budget parameters.
  • Hires, trains, evaluates and supervises staff and student employees.

Minimum qualifications

Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.

Required education

  • Bachelor's degree in related field from an accredited institution.

Required experience

  • Three years' relevant experience.
  • Working experience with content management systems.
  • Working experience with customer relationship management software.
  • Ability to work both independently and with a team to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Understanding of social media best practices across all channels, including advertising and reporting.

Physical requirements

Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.

Working conditions

Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
