General summary

Identifies, assesses, and solicits philanthropic support for the University through foundation, community, and corporate funds with the goal of increasing philanthropic revenue.

Major duties

  • Identifies and researches new foundation or community funders.
  • Leads proposal preparation by drafting, revising, and editing documents to be submitted to foundations and organizations, including letters of inquiry, proposals, reports, and correspondence.
  • Utilizes a customer relationship management system to manage and track due dates for proposals, reports, and meetings with funders, expediting as needed. Ensures timely responses to foundation funding opportunities and accountability to current funders.
  • Serves as liaison to academic colleges, faculty, and other campus partners to ensure continuity, accuracy, and adherence to key processes related to grant management and reporting.
  • Maintains relationships with current funders by drafting reports, correspondence, and other written materials. Participates in in-person and virtual meetings and phone conversations with funders.
  • Participates on the University Advancement team and attends meetings to assist with other fundraising opportunities.
  • Coordinates with the communications team on story writing, media activity, social media presence, and other forms of recognition.

Required education

  • Bachelor's degree in related field from an accredited institution.

Required experience

  • Two years' relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated skill in writing and editing proposals that meet requirements of foundation funders.
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work as a team member in a complex organization.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to articulate the importance of higher education and the critical role and priorities of the University and Advancement office.
  • Demonstrated experience using relational databases.
  • Experience with office software, including word processing, spreadsheets and presentation software.
  • Experience with grant and research tools.

Required other

  • Ability to work irregular shifts and extended hours, including evenings and weekends.

Physical requirements

Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.

Working conditions

Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
