General summary

Oversees instructional design and development operations and programs. Manages the instructional design and development team.

Major duties

  • Directs, oversees, and evaluates the instructional design and development team internal and external, credit and non-credit, projects, processes, and daily operations. Identifies opportunities for improvement and lead change initiatives.
  • Collaborates with University’s instructional support services leadership, professional development, University departments, subject matter experts, and other partners to identify, coordinate, implement, and refine high-quality programming, instructional materials, and learning experiences. Builds and maintains collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Collaborates with University teams on processes, projects, communications, delivery of teaching and learning materials, and programs.
  • Identifies opportunities to improve course content and collaborate with instructors on reflection and redesign.
  • Conducts research to support innovation and improve teaching and learning.
  • Collaborates with University leadership and appropriate partners to implement strategic initiatives.
  • Hires, trains, evaluates and supervises staff.

Required education

  • Master's degree in related field from an accredited institution.

Required experience

  • Five years' relevant experience.
  • Supervisory or lead experience.
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with Instructional design.
  • Experience working in a center for teaching and learning or similar.
  • Demonstrated experience in assessment of projects and learning needs.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
  • Knowledge of development best practices for both credit and non-credit offerings, adult learning principles and methods, and user experience principles.
  • Demonstrated proficiency and experience in using industry standard tools and training technologies such as authoring tools, digital graphics media, audio, animation and video production tools to create learning experiences.
  • Experience using Learning Management Systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Physical requirements

Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.

Working conditions

Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
