General summary

Provides advanced instructional design leadership, consultation, and mentorship to support instructional quality and continuous improvement. Leads the development of instructional materials, workshops, and programs aligned with accreditation, accessibility, and compliance requirements, while collaborating across the Center for Teaching, Learning, and Development (CTLD) to advance teaching and learning initiatives.

Major duties

  • Leads the design, development, and continuous improvement of courses, instructional materials, and learning experiences across all instructional modalities.
  • Partners with faculty, subject matter experts, and CTLD colleagues on complex instructional design projects and applies evidence-based instructional design practices to support effective learning experiences.
  • Applies accessibility and Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles to instructional materials and learning experiences. Reviews instructional content for accessibility standards, best practices, and institutional guidelines, providing recommendations for improvement. Collaborates with faculty, instructional designers, and accessibility specialists to support inclusive and accessible learning environments.
  • Designs, develops, and facilitates professional development programs for faculty and staff on teaching, learning, instructional design, and educational technology. Collaborates to integrate instructional design content into broader programming and continuously improve offerings through evaluation and feedback.
  • Creates and maintains instructional resources, templates, learning objects, and on-demand content in collaboration with colleagues. Develops guides and best-practice documentation for website and University community, ensuring all resources meet accessibility and inclusive design standards.
  • Provides mentorship, guidance, and onboarding support. Collaborates with colleagues to share expertise, promote consistent instructional design practices, and model best practices in consultation and project execution.
  • Manages complex instructional design projects involving multiple stakeholders. Collaborates with faculty and staff to provide advanced instructional design guidance, and share project outcomes, lessons learned, and best practices with teams.
  • Evaluates and pilots emerging educational technologies, methodologies, and practices in collaboration with leadership and colleagues. Maintains current knowledge of instructional design research. Contributes to continuous improvement of instructional design services and standards and responds to evolving institutional needs in support of mission.

Required education

  • Bachelor's degree in related field from an accredited institution.

Required experience

  • Three years' relevant experience.
  • Progressively responsible experience in instructional design or related field.
  • Strong knowledge of instructional design theories, models, and best practices.
  • Demonstrated experience designing online, hybrid, and multimodal learning experiences.
  • Proven experience managing projects and coordinating with multiple stakeholders.
  • Experience mentoring or supporting instructional design professionals.
  • Strong knowledge of accessibility best practices and universal design for learning principles.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and provide solutions to problems.
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency with learning management systems.
  • Proficiency with industry-standard instructional design tools and training technologies.
  • Experience facilitating workshops or training sessions.

Physical requirements

Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.

Working conditions

Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
