General summary
Provides operational leadership for educational technology services by managing operations, service quality, and staff performance. Delivers instructional technology support, training, and consultation to instructors across in-person, online, email, and phone channels. Oversees projects and consultations; and ensures alignment with institutional priorities and professional standards. Collaborates on instructional technology initiatives and promotes accessibility.
Major duties
- Oversees and contributes to educational technology services, including technology integration projects, instructional technology consultation, and instructor support across all instructional modalities. Leads complex projects requiring advanced technical expertise and collaboration with multiple stakeholders and provides guidance on effective technology integration and instructional practices using an objective or goal first approach to technology support and consultation to ensure educational purpose guides tool use.
- Coordinates team workflows, project assignments, and capacity planning to ensure effective service delivery, timely project completion, and a collaborative, user-centered team culture.
- Guides the strategic direction of educational technology services, professional development, resource creation, team operations, and process improvement. Aligns services and initiatives with institutional priorities and translates strategy into actionable plans and expectations.
- Develops and maintains standards, workflows, processes, and quality assurance practices that ensure consistent, accessible, and effective service delivery. Establishes project management protocols, intake processes, service expectations, and quality metrics aligned with accessibility and universal design principles.
- Serves as primary liaison across teaching and learning support functions, coordinating cross-functional initiatives, and facilitating communication to ensure aligned, integrated services.
- Monitors emerging trends, technologies, and research in educational technology and digital pedagogy to inform practice and innovation. Evaluates new technologies and recommends development approaches, leads team professional development, and promotes effective technology practices across the teaching and learning community.
- Demonstrates adaptability in responding to evolving priorities and emerging institutional needs while supporting organizational goals and continuous improvement.
- Monitors educational technology service effectiveness through data, usage trends, and stakeholder feedback. Leads continuous improvement of support models, processes, documentation, accessibility integration, and service delivery to ensure scalable, consistent, and user-centered services.
- Ensures educational technology spaces and equipment meet evolving faculty and staff needs, collaborating with leadership to address technology requirements and concerns.
- Hires, trains, evaluates and supervises staff.
Minimum qualifications
Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.
Required education
- Master's degree in related field from an accredited institution.
Required experience
- Five years' relevant experience.
- Demonstrated supervisory or lead experience with academic technology staff.
- Advanced knowledge of educational technology tools, learning management systems, and digital teaching platforms.
- Proven project management experience with complex, multi-stakeholder technology initiatives.
- Experience developing and implementing support processes, standards, and quality assurance protocols.
- Demonstrated experience supporting technology integration across online, hybrid, and face-to-face learning environments.
- Strong knowledge of accessibility standards for educational technology Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG, Section 508).
- Experience working collaboratively with faculty and academic leadership. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and priorities.
- Advanced proficiency with learning management systems.
- Proficiency with educational technology tools, web conferencing platforms, and digital teaching technologies.
- Experience mentoring and developing technology support professionals.
Physical requirements
Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.
Working conditions
Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
