General summary
Coordinates with instructional design, professional development, and internal and external partners to design, develop, and refine technology-based learning experiences for credit and non-credit offerings.
Major duties
- Creates, tests, maintains and documents content for online learning management systems and other online applications utilizing a variety of software, techniques and tools.
- Coordinates with University staff and appropriate internal and external teams to design, develop, implement, and refine engaging and interactive learning materials. Provides consultations on learning experience development as well as technical integrations and best practices to both internal and external partners.
- Applies design and development best practices, adult learning principles and methods, and human-centered learning principles.
- Creates and implements instructional and media design tools.
- Ensures that learning objects, resources and experiences meet University standards and identifies opportunities to encourage compliance with accessibility and content standards and make improvements.
- Works closely with professional development staff to identify and create non-credit online learning products and services.
- Remains current on relevant online learning practices and trends for both credit and non-credit offerings. Researches and recommends new technologies to meet related functional requirements and strategic goals.
- Troubleshoots end-user issues. Identifies opportunities to improve course content, workflows, and functionality.
- Documents and reports projects and usage.
- Hires, trains, evaluates and supervises student employees.
Minimum qualifications
Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.
Required education
- Bachelor's degree in related field from an accredited institution.
Required experience
- One year's relevant experience.
- Demonstrated experience creating online learning modules and experiences.
- Demonstrated ability to combine content-centered and human-centered approaches to develop online learning experiences.
- Demonstrated experience in assessment of projects and learning needs.
- Knowledge of development best practices for both credit and non-credit offerings, adult learning principals and methods, and user experience principles.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to work independently and use initiative to solve problems.
- Ability to work on multiple projects concurrently.
- Demonstrated proficiency and experience in using industry standard tools and training technologies such as authoring tools, digital, graphics media, audio, animation and video production tools to create learning experiences.
- Demonstrated experience in web design and Hypertext Markup Language and Cascading Style Sheets.
- Experience using Learning Management Systems.
Physical requirements
Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.
Working conditions
Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
