General summary

Directs all marketing and communication strategies for WMUx. Responsible for leading the WMUx market research function. Develops and executes strategic priorities to ensure the University’s long-term success.

Major duties

  • Manages, creates and executes broad marketing communication plans and strategies which include direct marketing, publications, promotion and advertising, press releases, events, Web and social media.
  • Writes and develops all marketing communication content, refining messages and objectives and adapting writing style to audience.
  • Directs the market research team, providing guidance and prioritization on strategic initiatives and helping to increase the utilization and impact of services.
  • Develops and executes strategic priorities and is integrally involved in the strategic planning process at multiple levels.
  • Assesses effectiveness of marketing strategies by defining metrics and methodology for measuring results.
  • Directs cross-functional teams to implement all marketing strategies and communicate relevant data and insights to various stakeholder groups.
  • Oversees and manages the marketing budget, including events and advertising, personnel, third-party data sources and external research partners.
  • Represents the department on University committees and workgroups.
  • Hires, trains, evaluates and supervises staff.

Minimum qualifications

Required education

  • Master's degree in related field from an accredited institution.

Required experience

  • Eight years' relevant experience required.
  • Supervisory or lead experience.
  • Experience in marketing roles responsible for developing and executing strategic marketing and communications plans and managing a budget.
  • Experience of and ability to craft marketing and communications strategies to achieve vision of department.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to form strong relationships across a large organization.
  • Experience with executing successful marketing campaigns to a wide variety of audiences.

Physical requirements

Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.

Working conditions

Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
