Program Specialist-Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (Part-Time)

General summary

Coordinates program development and implementation, volunteer collaboration and program outreach in order to support achievement of Osher Lifelong Learning Institute's mission and vision.

Major duties

  • Provides customer service to volunteers. Assists with program planning, development, and implementation of learning institute events. Serves as a liaison between institute volunteers and staff. Provides support and assistance to committees.
  • Coordinates overall evaluation of courses, programs, and events. Prepares evaluation reports for the learning institute leadership, executive committee and advisory board.
  • Works with the learning institute staff, volunteers and the University marketing team to create, develop, and implement short and long-term strategies for the delivery of quality products inclusive of email campaigns, newsletters, social media, and radio and print communication.
  • Compiles monthly newsletter and works with University marketing for completion and electronic distribution.
  • Utilizes technology platforms to assist with course registration, particularly during peak periods, and gathering data for reporting purposes.
  • Delivers support to instructors, via training, ensuring access to classrooms, assistance with technology, supporting online course delivery.
  • Assists the director in elevating the visibility of the learning institute, specifically on-campus, as well as with external communities.
  • Works closely with staff to support other areas of the institute to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of operations.
  • Assists in the ongoing development of curriculum by helping to identify new courses and instructors each semester.
  • Regularly reviews the Institute's website and works with University marketing to ensure updates are made as needed.

Minimum qualifications

Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.

Required education

  • Bachelor's degree in related field from an accredited institution.

Required experience

  • Two years' relevant experience.
  • Experience working in higher education.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple complex tasks with accuracy and professionalism.
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet and creative software applications.
  • Experience working with a mature adult population.
  • Ability to learn software applications and systems.

Required other

  • Valid Michigan Driver’s license. Ability to travel through Southwest Michigan.

Physical requirements

Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.

Working conditions

Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
