General summary

Oversees all aspects of the Martin Luther King Jr. Student Scholars Academy.

Major duties

  • Prepares the mission, vision, goals, and objectives of the Martin Luther King Jr. Academy for submission. Develops, plans, and implements programs, activities, and learning modules. Establishes and implements policies and procedures.
  • Facilitates the collection of program data for use in assessment and analysis. Evaluates the program and implements enhancements for planning. Provides reports to staff, for marketing materials, and to use in external diversity award applications.
  • Manages program budget and prepares financial reports. Ensures financial and budgetary accountability with the department. Makes financial decisions that impact the program.
  • Researches best practices and trends. Presents information to other programs and departments on campus as requested.
  • Serves as program liaison to provide services to scholars. Shares best practices, promotes consistent student success models, and develops collaborations to pool resources to benefit scholars.
  • Coordinates to evaluate scholarship applications and select the scholarship cohort each year.
  • Hires, trains, evaluates, and supervises student employees.

Minimum qualifications

Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.

Required education

  • Master's degree in related field from an accredited institution.

Required experience

  • Five years' relevant experience.
  • Supervisory or lead experience.
  • Experience working with a diverse population of students.
  • Experience with program development and implementation.
  • Experience with budgets.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with office software, including word processing, spreadsheets, and presentation software.

Physical requirements

Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.

Working conditions

Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
