General summary

Designs, implements, administers and evaluates compensation and benefit programs that align rewards with organizational goals.

Major duties

  • Oversees market-pricing process for University jobs, collaborating with external consultants as necessary. Analyzes competitive salary information in order to determine market relationship. Oversees the University's response to external market surveys.
  • Oversees the staff compensation system job evaluation process, including the onboarding and training process for new members. Reviews job evaluation committee decisions to ensure process compliance. Maintains staff compensation system required job qualifications so that they reflect the market-place and balance campus-wide consistency. Oversees production of staff compensation system job descriptions.
  • Participates in the annual pay implementation process for staff and executives. Maintains knowledge of HR and human resource management system databases, system codes and procedures, especially with regard to compensation administration. Maintains compensation-related tables. Participates in end-user testing of system modifications, upgrades and enhancements.
  • Administers assigned benefits programs, including but not limited to health, long-term disability, life insurance and retirement plans. Coordinates vendor relationships, including claims escalation and administrative process improvements.
  • Provides benefits-related expertise to HR service center staff and HR business partners. Provides second-tier customer service to employees and retirees on a range of benefit matters.
  • Responds to employee requests regarding retirement eligibility and post-retirement benefits.
  • Oversees benefit processing related to deceased employees and retirees, serving as a contact for surviving family members and providing expertise to the HR service center staff.
  • Collaborates on the development and deployment of compensation- and benefits-related employee communication and outreach activities, including print and electronic media and in-person events.
  • Presents new employee orientation sessions. Serves as a member of assigned HR department, Business and Finance division, and University-wide committees.
  • Supervises HR Interns, including selecting, onboarding, training and work planning.

Minimum qualifications

Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.

Required education

  • Bachelor's degree in related field from an accredited institution.

Required experience

  • Three years' relevant experience.
  • Familiarity with human resources-, compensation-, and benefits-related laws, regulations and best practices.
  • Familiarity with employer-sponsored healthcare plans and retirement plans.
  • Exceptional spreadsheet skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Strong analytic skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong problem solving skills.

Physical requirements

Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.

Working conditions
