General summary

Responsible for providing leadership to dining services operations.

Major duties

  • Provides information, direction, and feedback for effective workflow, customer service, and promotion of collaborative teamwork.
  • Provides input and collaborates on dining services marketing initiatives, events, and campus programs. Collaborates with departments to advance University goals. Furthers sustainable practices within foodservice operations in partnership with other departments.
  • Acts on opportunities to advance the participation of dining services in recruitment and retention, expand business and revenue, and benefit the work and reputation of the University.
  • Responsible for ensuring a safe and sanitary environment for University food establishments. Ensures compliance with Federal, State, County, and University safety and sanitation regulations. Plans and provides appropriate services during emergencies or special situations.
  • Maintains a current working knowledge of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employee labor contract and provides guidance on related procedures and successful management-labor relations.
  • Schedules and places employees into various campus divisions. Revises seasonal dining staffing and placement based on operational needs.
  • Participates in the planning of dining service facilities, programs, and services. Collaborates with the director to ensure a high-quality campus dining program.
  • Maintains current knowledge of industry culinary and service trends. Plans and implements new offerings, methods, and operations.
  • Develops professional skills through participation in professional development and continuing education.
  • Hires, trains, evaluates, and supervises staff.

Minimum qualifications

Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.

Required education

  • Bachelor's degree in related field from an accredited institution.

Required experience

  • Three years' relevant experience.
  • Experience in a large commercial food service operation.
  • Experience in a managerial role.
  • Experience in a retail environment.

Required other

  • SERV Safe Certification or capable of obtaining within six months of hire.

Physical requirements

Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.

Working conditions

Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
