General summary
Plans, coordinates and implements various fitness and wellness programs for faculty, staff and students.
Major duties
- Develops and administers programs aimed at improving employee and student health and well-being. Directs various recreation activities for fitness and wellness. Collaborates with campus partners, outside vendors and the community.
- Manages fitness franchise studio and maintains brand standards. Adheres to changing guidelines, trainer qualifications and expectations of parent company. Communicates with parent company with any issues and ensures adherence to contract.
- Creates and directs holistic fitness and wellness education presentations, specialty programs, wellness workshops and other outreach methods in a variety of formats for students, faculty, and staff.
- Directs department initiatives for marketing, social media, and website. Ensures compliance with University brand standards. Maintains department and program websites and social media channels.
- Chairs the University's Western Wellness Committee. Serves on various health and well-being committees across campus.
- Accountable for fiscal management of the fitness and well-being programs budget at the Student Recreation Center.
- Assesses designated fitness and wellness programs. Researches industry trends and evaluates new and current programming. Updates programs and services to best meet client needs, including diverse populations.
- Serves as a member of the departmental leadership team. Participates in strategic planning, budgeting, assessment and implementation of policies and procedures for the department. Represent the department at University functions and committees.
- Hires, trains, evaluates and supervises staff and student employees.
Minimum qualifications
Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.
Required education
- Master's degree in related field from an accredited institution.
Required experience
- Three years' relevant experience.
- Experience administering fitness and wellness programming and planning collaborative programming and events.
- Experience creating comprehensive workout plans, and holistic well-being education programming for diverse populations.
- Strong written and verbal skills.
- Strong Interpersonal and conflict management skills. Supervisory experience.
Required other
- NCCA recognized Personal Trainer, Group Fitness or Wellness Coach certification.
- First Aid/CPR/AED or ability to obtain within first 60 days of hire.
- Ability to work irregular shifts and extended hours, including weekend and holiday rotation and on call duty.
Physical requirements
Light work with some physical demands such as continuously lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds, but rarely moving more than 25 to 50 pounds.
Working conditions
Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
