General summary
Provides leadership and oversight to the master planning, design and architectural services, construction services, capital projects, and space management functions for the University.
Major duties
- Oversees campus activities relating to planning, design and construction including building renovations, major construction projects, infrastructure, and maintenance projects as applicable.
- Oversees project reports, which reflect accurate time, labor, and materials expenses to ensure projects are completed within funding constraints and allowable performance periods.
- Manages state funding requests, including the maintenance of a five-year plan, as well as annual and one-time funding requests. Responsible for the department’s annual budget and funding model to meet all funding requirements.
- Prepares plans and specifications for work to be performed by design consultants, contractors, or in-house forces.
- Ensures the development, maintenance, and continuous improvement of all design standards and processes or procedures for design, construction, and space management.
- Ensures compliance with all building code regulations, including coordinating all building code compliance and regulatory reporting as required.
- Serves as a partner and collaborator with the ability to build consensus and cooperative working relationships amongst other facilities teams while ensuring a focus on the functional campus-built environment.
- Monitors and measures the effectiveness of the department through the application of metrics such as benchmarking and customer surveys. Analyzes complex data and presents reports recommending alternative courses of action to policy-making groups.
- Reviews project estimates to determine fairness and accuracy of pricing based on historical data and current industry trends.
- Hires, trains, evaluates, and supervises staff.
Minimum qualifications
Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.
Required education
- Bachelor's degree in related field from an accredited institution.
Required experience
- Ten years’ relevant experience.
- Supervisory experience.
- Advanced experience showcasing increasing levels of responsibility including a minimum of five years in leadership roles.
Physical requirements
Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.
Working conditions
Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
