General summary
Responsible for the legal and ethical compliance with export controls regulations and United States Exports.
Major duties
- Reviews technical data, grant proposals, foreign collaborations, and contracts with foreign vendors to determine export classifications and licensing requirements. Develops and maintains record management.
- Coordinates and supports the Immigration Officer to vet foreign persons. Advises, consults, and conducts investigations of export control activities.
- Develops, maintains, and implements campus-wide Export Control training.
- Assists researchers in developing and implementing Technology Control Plans.
- Performs Restricted Party Screening.
- Researches, analyzes, and interprets the federal register, drafts of proposed legislation, regulations and laws, and community standards and practices. Develops, implements, and audits procedures, practices, and policies. Consults with federal and state regulating agencies.
- Ensures internal and external compliance audits are completed.
- Handles calls, requests, and inquiries.
- Serves on University committees.
Minimum qualifications

Required education
- Bachelor's degree in related field from an accredited institution, or equivalent combination of education and experience
Required experience
- Two years' relevant experience.
- Proficient in customer service, time management, utilization of internet and computer software, record-keeping, comprehension, and application of regulations, exercising sound judgment.
- Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills through various channels.
Required other
- Must be a U.S. Person as defined in Code of Federal Regulation or able to acquire a license from the Departments of State, Commerce, or Treasury.
- Must be Eligible for a U.S. government security clearance if required for access to controlled research, technology, and software.
- Ability to work irregular shifts and extended hours, including evenings and weekends.
Physical requirements
Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.
Working conditions
Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
